Superior properties of SmBCO coated conductors at high magnetic fields and elevated temperatures

چکیده
In addition to the well investigated YBa2Cu3O7 d (Y-123, YBCO) compound, many other rare earth-123 compounds are candidate materials for the production of coated conductors. Sm-123 seems to be an excellent alternative because of its higher transition temperature (Tc) and higher critical current densities (Jc) in external magnetic fields. Because of the fast decrease of Jc in YBCO at elevated temperatures, especially around the boiling point of liquid nitrogen, the slightly higher Tc can be an important advantage. Recently, significant progress has been made in the production of long length Sm-123 based coated conductors. We report here on transport measurements on these conductors in the liquid nitrogen temperature range. The critical current densities were determined as a function of the applied field and the crystallographic orientation under maximum Lorentz force configuration. A shift of the c-axis ( 7 ) from the tape normal was found. The conductor properties were compared to those of commercially available YBCO coated conductors. The critical current densities as well as the irreversibility fields are higher in the SmBCO tapes, thus demonstrating the superior properties of the Sm-123 compound. 2010 Elsevier B.V. An equation for the quench propagation velocity valid for high field magnet use of REBCO coated conductors
Based on a study of the thermophysical properties, we derived a practical formula for the normal zone propagation velocity appropriate for REBa2Cu3O7-x coated conductors in high magnetic fields. An analytical expression to evaluate the current sharing temperature as a function of the operating conditions is also proposed. The presented study has allowed us to account for experimental results no...
متن کاملField and temperature scaling of the critical current density in commercial REBCO coated conductors
Scaling relations describing the electromagnetic behaviour of coated conductors (CCs) greatly simplify the design of REBCO-based devices. The performance of REBCO CCs is strongly influenced by fabrication route, conductor architecture and materials, and these parameters vary from one manufacturer to the others. In the present work we have examined the critical surface for the current density, J...
متن کاملHigh-temperature superconducting coil option for the fusion reactor FFHR and development of indirectly-cooled HTS conductors
Large current-capacity high-temperature superconducting (HTS) conductors using YBCO wires are being considered as an option for the fusion energy reactor FFHR [1, 2]. Typical required current for such conductors in FFHR is 100 kA at about 13 T magnetic field. The operating temperature for HTS magnets in FFHR is about 20 K with conduction cooling using an indirect cooling method. Since the speci...

Nanocomposite cation exchange membranes (CEMs) were prepared by adding various amounts of functionalized silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles to the sulfonated polyethersulfone (sPES) polymeric matrix. The particles were synthesized first by the co-precipitation method (M0). Different surface modifications were then carried out on them by grafting three functional groups of mercaptopropyl, pro...
متن کاملHigh-field transport properties of a P-doped BaFe2As2 film on technical substrate
High temperature (high-Tc) superconductors like cuprates have superior critical current properties in magnetic fields over other superconductors. However, superconducting wires for high-field-magnet applications are still dominated by low-Tc Nb3Sn due probably to cost and processing issues. The recent discovery of a second class of high-Tc materials, Fe-based superconductors, may provide anothe...
